These Terms & Conditions apply to all classes, courses, and private events offered by Byron Bay Cooking School and Chef Sam Gowing (Samantha Gowing). By completing a booking with either brand, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.
1. All Bookings
1.1 Payment & Confirmation
- Full payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your place or event.
- Your booking is not confirmed until payment has been received in full.
- Accepted payment methods are listed on our respective websites.
1.2 Cancellations & Refunds
- Once a booking is confirmed, it is non-refundable.
- Classes and events cannot be transferred to another date, with the exception of gift vouchers (see Section 3).
- If you are unable to attend a confirmed booking due to unforeseen personal circumstances, Byron Bay Cooking School and Chef Sam Gowing accept no responsibility for the booking fee.
1.3 Our Right to Cancel
- In the unlikely event of exceptional circumstances (including illness, emergency, or events beyond our control), Byron Bay Cooking School / Chef Sam Gowing reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a class or event.
- Should we need to cancel, you will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule — whichever you prefer.
1.4 Menus
- Menus are subject to change without notice. We will always endeavour to maintain the spirit and standard of the advertised menu.
1.5 Reminders
- We do not send reminder communications prior to your event. Please note your class or event date in your diary upon booking confirmation.
1.6 Dietary Requirements
- We can accommodate a range of dietary requirements including vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, and other food preferences, with advance notice at the time of booking.
- Please notify us of any dietary needs or allergies when confirming your booking so we can tailor the menu accordingly.
1.7 Participant Conduct
- Byron Bay Cooking School and Chef Sam Gowing reserve the right to refuse participation to any person who arrives intoxicated or whose behaviour poses a risk to themselves, other participants, or staff.
- All participants are expected to behave respectfully throughout the duration of the class or event.
1.8 Minimum Age
- Participants must be at least 12 years of age at the time of the class or event.
- Participants aged 12–17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
2. Scheduled Classes
The following conditions apply to all bookings for publicly scheduled cooking classes offered by Byron Bay Cooking School and Chef Sam Gowing.
2.1 Bookings
- Class sizes are limited. Bookings are essential and confirmed only upon receipt of full payment.
- If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your place to another person. Please notify us in advance so we can update our records.
- Classes cannot be rescheduled at the participant’s request, except as provided for gift vouchers in Section 3.
2.2 What’s Included
Your class fee includes:
- All ingredients for the class
- Hands-on tuition, demonstrations, and a take-home recipe handbook (provided as a digital download)
- Table setup including linen, cutlery, glassware, and water
- A meal (format varies by class — please confirm at the time of booking)
- Staff for the full duration of the class
3. Gift Vouchers
- Gift vouchers are non-refundable.
- Gift vouchers may be used to book any available scheduled class with Byron Bay Cooking School or Chef Sam Gowing.
- If you are unable to attend your booked class, you may reschedule to an alternative date, subject to availability.
- Please contact us in advance to arrange a reschedule.
4. Corporate Classes & Private Events
The following conditions apply to corporate team-building sessions, private functions, birthday events, or any occasion where the services of Byron Bay Cooking School or Chef Sam Gowing are engaged exclusively for your group.
4.1 Booking & Payment
- Full payment of the agreed event fee is required in advance to confirm your booking, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- Once confirmed and payment received, the booking is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another date.
4.2 Instruction
- All classes are led by Samantha Gowing (Chef Sam Gowing) and/or an authorised representative of Byron Bay Cooking School.
4.3 What’s Included
Your event fee includes:
- All ingredients for the class
- Hands-on tuition, demonstrations, and recipes
- Full event setup including table linen, cutlery, glassware, napkins, and water
- A full meal
- Staff for the full duration of the event
5. Liability & Risk
5.1 Indemnity
- Byron Bay Cooking School and Chef Sam Gowing accept no responsibility for any loss of, or damage to, personal property during a class or event.
- Byron Bay Cooking School and Chef Sam Gowing accept no liability for personal injury arising from participation in any class or event, except where required by law.
5.2 Risk Waiver
- Prior to participating, each attendee will be required to sign an individual Risk Waiver and Indemnity Form. This form will be provided in advance of your booking date.
5.3 Australian Consumer Law
- Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict, or modify any rights or remedies you may have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable legislation.
